At verkstedt, we pride ourselves on being more than just a team; we are a group of kind-hearted professionals dedicated to crafting exceptional software. From Berlin to Cologne, we commit to fostering an environment that values diversity, encourages open dialogue, and cultivates mutual respect. Our mission is not only to build great software but also to create an inclusive space where everyone, irrespective of their background or identity, feels welcomed and valued.

This Code of Conduct applies to our team, to the freelancers and subcontractors who work with us, and to everyone who contributes to our open-source projects or joins our events.

Our Standards

• Empathy and Kindness: We strive to lead with empathy and kindness in every interaction. Recognising the strength in diversity, we welcome differing opinions and experiences as sources of innovation and growth.

• Constructive Collaboration: We see constructive feedback as a cornerstone of how we work, essential for improving what we build, our company, and ourselves. We are committed to sharing and receiving feedback with grace and professionalism, whether it comes from a colleague or from someone we have never met.

• Accountability and Learning: We acknowledge our mistakes openly, learn from them, and take decisive steps to improve. Our focus is on collective improvement and striving for excellence in both our personal and professional growth.

• Inclusion in Action: We actively work to ensure that every space we run is a place where everyone feels a sense of belonging. Discrimination, harassment, and any form of disrespectful behaviour have no place in our company or in our projects.

Unacceptable Behaviour

We have zero tolerance for behaviour that intimidates, harasses, or harms anyone in our spaces or anyone we work with. This includes sexualised language or imagery, derogatory comments, public or private harassment, trolling or deliberately disruptive conduct, and the unauthorised sharing of private information. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

Our Enforcement

Upholding these standards is a collective responsibility. All members of verkstedt are empowered to take action against behaviour that contradicts our values, and we ask everyone who takes part in our spaces to do the same. We promise to address any violations with fairness and urgency, ensuring that our spaces remain respectful and inclusive for everyone.

Scope & Reporting

This Code of Conduct applies to all spaces operated by verkstedt, including our offices in Berlin and Cologne, our online channels, the projects we publish and the spaces we run for them, such as repositories, issue trackers and discussion channels, our events, and any public setting where you represent verkstedt.

Reports of unacceptable behaviour can be made to our designated representatives via email at coc@verkstedt.com. Our designated representatives will take appropriate action based on the severity of the offence, ranging from a warning to removal from our spaces and, for members of our team and our contractors, up to termination of employment or contracts.

Championing Open Culture

We encourage everyone covered by this Code of Conduct to actively contribute to an environment of inclusivity, respect, and collaboration. Part of fostering such an environment includes promoting a culture of early feedback and open exchange. This means we actively encourage individuals to share their thoughts, ideas, and constructive feedback as soon as they arise. By doing so, we not only address potential issues more effectively but also open up opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement. We believe that everyone’s perspective is valuable, and through open communication, we can all contribute to the growth and success of our company and of the work we share.
